Back to Collegiate Volleyball After Ligament Tear
My name is Erin and I play collegiate volleyball for Hunter College. And I’m going to tell you about my ankle injury and how I recovered from it.
So when I first started playing volleyball, I got new shoes and I didn’t break them in. And when I jumped, I came down and I landed with my foot lateral, perpendicular to the ground, and I tore a ligament.
And my goal was to get better and get, back on the court as fast as possible. So I went to Noah Hyman, who is an amazing therapist. He helped me and he got me back in two weeks, from a fully torn ligament. I came to the clinic and I felt very comfortable. It was a very relaxed, calm environment. He gave me one-on-one interaction, which I really enjoyed. We did cutting drills, hops, a lot of movement, lateral work, and dynamic stretches.
And he would always make sure that I was comfortable and my ankle was ok. Not overstepping it, but also pushing it so I could get better, quicker, faster, and continue playing the sport that I love.
Unfortunately, I got another ankle injury about six months later, cutting on a very sticky bad court. And I pushed it too much. I didn’t do my stretches before, which I probably should have, given that it’s worked so great in the past. So I came back to First Health PT.
This was my second fully torn ligament, on the outside of my ankle.
I came back, I started playing again, and now I’m able to play on different courts. I play beach volleyball, grass concrete, hard indoor wooden floor, and play in a very competitive atmosphere.
